It was announced before. the Court Martial opened that Capt. F. T. B. Tower of the Hood and Roar-Admiral Bailey, commanding the Battle Cruiser Squadron. Homa Fleet, had been summoned to attend.
Capt. Sawbridge was defended by Capt. Roderick B. T. Miles, of H.MS. Vernon, principal of the Torpedo School, Portamouth and Paymaster Commander Wethey of H.M.S. Renown.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge of "negligently or by de- fault hazarding H.M.S. Renown on January 23."
Capt. Sawbridge objected to all the officers who sat at the Court Martial yesterday being included in the Court to-day and they were replaced by other officers.
A "circumstantial letter," sign- ed by the prosecuting ofleer, Capl Troup, was read, stating that it appeared Capt. Sawbridge was to blame for the collision in that he continued to steer the 'ourne

Saw- A report made by Capt. bridge to Rear-Admiral Balley, two days after the colllalon, was read showing that he expected the Hood to turn, but the Hood maintained her courao and speed, 80, despite the Renown stopping her engines, starboarding her wheel and going astern, the collision was unavoid able.
Lieut. Commander G. M. Stitt of H. M. S. Renown gave evidence that Commander E. V. Lees, Squadron navigating officer, told him on Janu- ary 19 that the Hood would turn. He reported this to Capt. Saw- bridge and subsequently, on Janu- ary 23, they received the signal which they accepted as confirma. tion.
Commander Lees in evidence said he told Lieut. Commander Stitt that he would propose that the Hood should turn.
There was somo doubt as regards which of two positions the Renown might have taken up. In his opinion, either would have been perfectly correct.
Capt. Tower's Evidence Capt. F. T. Tower, the Hood's. commander, who will be court martialled to-morrow, gave evid- once that he expected the Renown to fall into his wake. When, about two-minutes-before-the-collision,
