SABOTAGE CAUSED MACON CRASH
ACID POURED UPON METAL GIRDERS
EXPERT SUSPECTS ONE OF SHIP'S CREW
(SPECIAL TO “TELEGRAPH")
(By Telepraph. Copyright, Telegraphic Mennagen Ordinance, 1894. Received, February 20, 11 am.)
Washington, Feb. 25. Sabotage is said to be responsible for the loss of the giant United States dirigible, Macon, which plunged downwards during manoeuvres off the California coast, taking two men to their deaths.
Mr. Roy W. Knabenshue, of Pasadena, California, famed designer of dirigibles, and a man who has experi- mented with them extensively, but who has been in- active in recent years, told the House of Representatives Patenta Committee to-day that sabotage had certainly been the cause of the disaster.
Sabotage had seen committed possibly while the ship was in flight, he said.
Ho doclined at first to amplify
this charge or to say who he be- lieved was responsible.
In answer to a question ho replied: "I'd hesitate to say that any foreign power was involved."
This expert urged that the con- tinuance of dirigible operation by the United States was essential for the nation's defence.
SUSPICIOUS
Later, Mr. Knaberishuc admitted that the fact that one of the

This mess boy was characterised us being of "Japanese extraction." The witness declared he be- lieved acid-had been-poured-upon the duraluminum girders of the craft. These, of course, buckled when a strain was placed upon them.

RUSSIA'S SHARP NOTE
TO GERMANY
Defiance of Germany expressed by one state, and a rigorous protest against the treatment of foreign nationals on German soil coming from another power, are the two latest elements to disturb the political peace in Central Europe.
In London, Baron von Berger Waldenegg, Austria's Foreign Minister, expressed defiance of the Nazi regime and resentment at the pretension that Ger- many's was the master mind behind Austria's destiny, says the United Press.
In Berlin, a sharp note has been received from the Soviet, protesting against the treatment of a Soviet subject, says Reuter.
