'ATTEMPT TO DEFRAUD
ALLEGED
LOCAL SOLICITOR APPEARS IN WITNESS BOX
Mr. P. IL Bin, the local solicitor, appeared as a witness for the pro- secution in the case in which Lan Wal-man, was charged before Mr. E. the Central Wynne-Jones, at Magistracy yesterday afternoon, on two counts of having attempted to defraud the Eastorn Mercantile and Construction Company of $907.71 by falsely pretending to the Company by
means of letter allegedly. written by Messrs. P. II. Bin & Com- pany, that the said Mesare. P. I. Sin & Company had the authority from Da! Kea to receive the money; and of having sent a threatening letter.
Mr. D. B. Evans appeared for the prosecution, and Mr. F. X. D'Almada (an) for the defendant.
Mr. Evans made an application that the second charge be withdrawn, and that the first charge bo dealt with summarily,
After hearing the opening of the case, Mr. Wynne-Jones granted the application.
Mr. Evans said that the complain- ant, Mr. William Francis Blako, was a director of the Eastern Mercantile and Construction Company. The do fondant was a clerk in the employ of the Company. On January 2, the Company were indebted to the Dal Kee firm, which was carried on by a man named Dai Kee and Mik Chow, to the Rum of $667.71. The original amount due was $087.71, but the complainant was told by his managing director that it had been agreed that $400 should be deducted as penalty for delay,
