FEAR MANY LOST
IN WRECK
DISASTER REPORTED OFF FUKIEN COAST
MAY BE SOLUTION TO ROCKET MYSTERY
An unconfirmed report has been received here from the United Prese in Shanghai to the effect that a steam- er, named the Foo Hsiang, sank last night off the Fukien coast.
Only two of 150 passengers aboard were saved, says this message.
Conjecture here is that this may have been the vessel which was firing rockets last night, which the steamer Burgenlander sighted and reported to Hong- kong at 8.30 p.m.
There were fears here that the vessel reported lost might have been the Jardine, Matheson steamer Foo Shing, but inquiries at that company's offices this morn- ing elicited the information that the Foo Shing was safely berthed in Shanghai and not due to leave for Hongkong until February 23.
A naval vessel from Hongkong, | --- an anti-piracy patrol last night, ro- ported this morning that sho hadi found the apparent solution of the rockets the Burgenlander reported last night. Thoan were said to be no more than fire-crackers dis- charged by a Chinese craft.
Questioned later, following re- ceipt hero of the report
of the

Police vessela from Mira Bay also hunted for the distressed ship

DECISION
MARKET IMMEDIATELY GIVEN IMPETUS
The United States Supreme Court, in quashing to- day the action brought by Mr. Norman C. Norman against the Baltimore and Ohio Railway to collect from them the "gold clause" value of their bonds which he holda, was a victory for the Administration and a de- fence of the monetary policy of President Roosevelt. The abrogation of the gold clause by Congress was thus approved by the Supreme Court, though the justices were divided five to four in their judgment.
The Supreme Court has given outright approval for legislation eliminating the gold payment clauses from all private bonds, and also has thrown out other suita seeking test legislation as applied to Government bonds, and likewise the suit seeking the payment of $1.69 in devalued currency on gold certificates sur- rendered under the Treasury's orders, says United Press.
With reference to Government bonds and gold certificates held in the United States and in Court claims in which suits have been filled, the Court holds that it has no authority to entertain such suits.
