Saturday's Rugby

Navy's Last Minute Win Against Club

Although the Navy started favourites in their Triangular Tourney Rugby' game with the Club on Saturday it was only through a brilliant last minute effort by Benson that they finished on top, the final score standing at three tries (9 points)` to one goal, one try (8 points),

The clash provided some of the beat rugger seen on the Club ground, fought out as it was at a terrific pace and featured by clover movements.

SUSPENSION

Sir, The Council of the Hongkong Football Association has suspended the officinis and players of the Young Indians Football Club for not having fullied its League fixtures.

This decision would have been heroic indeed were R not for tho fact that the Young Indians had al- ready withdrawn from the League in protest against a very unreasonable warning from one member of zealous Emergency Committee.

at

our

This threat, as alleged in the Young Indians' lotter of withdrawal, has never been donled, nor has it ever been brought

пр

any subsequent enquiry, so far as is known. It appears that this vital point of the whole issue was sidetrackod by those responsibio and it has been remarked that the Council, in upholding the League Management Committee's ro- commendation, auspended the Young Indians in order to cover somebody's blunder or did it to save their face.

own

That the Young Indians were quite willing to continue their League fix- tures was evident when, at the

re-

quest of the Association, they met the University the week after they had decided tó withdraw, but with no Assurance from Association that

the alleged threat would not be put Into effect they felt there was no other alternative but to give up fur- ther participation in League football. And now they have been penalised for having taken this stand.

OTHER 'CLUBS

Let us try to be fair and just, Take

a the Kowloon Football Club, members

2

of which have now been brought up

and

on three separate occasions this sea- son for ungentlemanly conduct dangerous play, the Lincolna twice, one of which resulted in the referee having had to abandon the game ten minutes from time, and the South

China twice. The above clubs aro among the best regulated clubs in the Colony but yet they have not succeeded in controlling their players this season.

And yet the Emergency Committes had to warn the Young Indians against -a-repetition-of-any-offence-when-one Indian player was brought up for the first time this season.

But the irony of it all is is that the Emergency Committee is composed of one member each from the Kowloon Football Club, 1 the Lincolns, and the South China on A.A., and it would be interesting to know if these gentlemen gave their own clubs the same "kindly advice" which they so generously gave to the Young Indians Foot- ball Club..

0

Perhaps it would also be of interest

1 to know that most of the officials and players of the Young Indians whom 1"the" Association so graciously

con-

3 descended to suspend from the League 2) are the same obliging lat who worked a at the stands at our football Interport

1 matches on the Inst four or lvg o occasions in which 'Shanghai came

0

down. They gave their services gratis --and this had always been appreciated by the Association. Not auch a bad récord this.

Before I conclude, it has been of ascertained that up to the time writing no oficial Intimation has been received by the Young Indians of the Association's decision. Let hope they will not change their mind and suspend the whole Club,
