CHINESE CHAMBER'S

MEETING

MEMBERS SUBSCRIPTIONS MUCH IN ARREARS

The depression in the Colony's trade is reflected in the large number the local Chinese Chamber of Com- of merelunts and Arins, members of

merce, who have been unable to pay their annual subscriptions, as revení. ed at the monthly meeting, of the Chamber yesterday afternoon. The meeting was presided by Mr. Li Sing- kui In the lisence of the Chairman. Mr. Wong Kwong-th.

Regarding the arrears of the mem- hers' subscriptions, the Secretary, Mr. Chan Ping-ni, told the meeting that among members who joined in 1933, ne fewer than 114 have failed to pay their annual subscriptions. If by the unt of December · subscriptions still fail to come from these members, their names will be struck off the reiter,

Me. Fung Kong-un, a member of the Caruber, wrote to enquire whe ther any progress had been made to Wards the installation of the lang distance telephone between Hongkong and Shanghai. He suggested that an this question concerns the trade re- vival in Hongkong, the Chamber should request the Government prank for the carly realisation of the scheme. The Secretary explained to the meeting that when the Chamber male enquiries about this long dis- tance telephone last year, they were informed that such a telephone con- necting Hongkong And Shanghai

HER lips are neither a streak of paint

LOOKS ORANGE-ACTS ROSE

In the stick Tangre looks orange. But put it on and notice how it changes to your natural shade of rose! It becomes

part of you, instead of a greasy coating, hence is longer-lasting than ordinary "paint" lipstick

Tangre's special cream base soothes and softens lips. No-drying, no cracking. no chepping. Also in Theatrical, a deeper shade for professional use.

In connection with the Chinese Government's

agreement with Messra. Arnhold and Company for the sale of tungsten, the Financial Times emphasises China's unique position, giving her the greatest influence on the price situation in world markets..

China's production of wolfram is 40 per cent of the world's out- put-it could easily be 60-also, China's production costs are far the cheapest.

Burma is next with 30 per cont while Bolivia is at ten per cent. and Is actively stimulating pro- duction. The Federated Malay States are also becoming import- ant in the wolfram field.

China alone is restricting out- put. This policy is less short- sighted than it appears to be, the journal states.

China's profit of 25 to 80 per cent. on sales should enable her to modernize and develop the tungsten Industry at her leisure.

the

The country's position eccms 30 unasanilable that it appears cer tain Chinese influence in tungsten market will become even more decisivo than it is now, the paper concludes.-Reuter,

Following the submission by Children's Shirts the Cabinet of the draft notifica- tion of the termination of tho Washington Treaty to the Em- peror, His Majesty has referred the subject to the Privy Council. It is generally believed that the Privy Council, when it meets in plenary session on December

Sta.

and probably on next day, the Government

the will formally notify the the Treaty of its termination.

Blynatorics 10 The Italian Ambassador, Auriti yesterday informed Mr. K. Hirota, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, that while Italy had no. intention of denouncing the pact, she was willing to concludo a new naval treaty in case the Washing- ton Treaty was abrogated.--. Reuter
