It is with much satisfaction that I report that I am able to announce a considerable increase in the Revenue of this year over that estimated. Reference to Governor Kennedy's Despatch W.222 of the 24th November last will show that owing to the disastrous receipts from ... to ..., it was thought advisable to provide against probable reductions from certain entries. Happily the Colony recovered itself earlier than could have been anticipated, and the state of trade, though dull, improved slightly in comparison with what it was in the preceding year.

The Revenue for 1875 is considered safely estimated at $840,000, and that is $35,000 in excess of the original estimate. In the next year, the Revenue is estimated at $834,476, and this decrease is calculated upon probable reductions in regard chiefly to the Opium Monopoly, Spirit Licenses, and receipts under the Contagious Diseases Ordinance. Of these, it is only necessary that I should refer to the first, and recall to mind that the Monopoly has been held in ... for three years, for which an annually increasing payment ...
