With dia- monds and clubs solid, how could Printz now he get an extra trick? reasoned that there was only one chance: If his partner hold the jack the of spades, he might defeat contract.
So he continued with the fourth heart, knowing that the declarer, dummy, and his partner were all out. A small diamond was die- carded from dummy.
Now, if Klein made the mistake of discarding or ruffing with a small spade, Printz fine play would have meant nothing, but Klein, realizing what his partner was trying to he- complish, trumped the heart lead with the jack of spades, and forced South to overtrump with the queen of spades.
