EW autumn suits and dresses, have about them that trimly tailored elegance which was talked about last August wherr Paris coutur- fers showed a fashion-minded world what would be worn this autumn and winter. Formal clothes are all that their name implies, bat day- time costumes lean toward the practical.
The new fabrics are lovely. There are tweeds, of course, but they're done up in new and novel patterns,
Plaids are highlighted. You can go in "for vivid Scotch- varieties or stick to nubile weaves in duller tones. One particularly alert American designer ses a plain red jacket over a long- sleeved dress of red, green and black Scotch plaid. She tops the outfit with a black boret and advises, block shoes, gloves and purse.;
Novelty woollens are prevalent this nutumn. The hairy ones are a little less fuzzy and the rough ones are rougher than ever. Some are interwoven with metallic threads. A few have
sellophane threads.
The best colours are dark green, dark rust, oxford gray, dark blue, off-shudes of brown and bright red. Black is, as always, a good choice, Genorally it's relieved by colourful touches.
Suit jackets are shorter than formerly. Many
are hiplength. The skirts are plain and nar row often showing side slushes that allow for walking comfort. Slits, by the way, are fashion news this autumn.
Self materal bows and ruffles aro newer, than white or pastel lingerie Loaches.. And this should be good news for the woman who has little time.
Amusing buttons, clips and fastenings are widely used. Suits are trimmed with buttoms In strange seashell shapes, and tips of two-piece dresses are held together with pieces of metal that resemble paper ellps or notebook rings or bows and arrows,
Accessories are more important than ever. The now hats-tricornes, berots, brimmed., models and way-down-on-one-side felis-are flattering as can be,
Shoes are cut on slim-fitting lines, that make feet look smaller and much prettier. With sults, oxfords are your best bet. With street dressas, the high-cut pumps are new. Plain black kid and suede-perforated and plain-are the most fushlonable shoe fabrics right now.
Be sure to get scuffless heels. They save wear and tear on the pocketbook and certainly help a girl to preservo a neat appearance.
