CHINESE SETTLERS IN ANNAM SUFFER
Nanking, Sept. 20. In a petition addressed to Bir. Lin Sen, Chairman of the National Government, a delegation repre senting the Chinese in Indo-China described how serious was the con- dition of 200,000 Chinese in An- nam as a result of the tariff policy imposed by the French authorities. They said that the Annamite customs rates imposed on Chinese Imports had been recently Increased tenfold. Numerous Chinese shops were rendered bankrupt, while thousands of Chinese were out of employment. The Chinese popu- lation has been reduced from 380,000 to 200,000.
The Delegation urged the Home. Government to open negotiations with the French authorities at an early date for a radical change in the existing customs rates in order to improve. Sino-Annamite trade | relations.-Central News Agency.
