The death is announced of Sir George Henschel, who won much fame as a singer, pianist, com- poser and conductor.
Born at Breslau, Germany, in Feb., 1850, Sir George Henschel received hin musical education at the Leipzig 'Conservatoire and in Berlin. It was as a planist that he made his first public appear- anco in 1862, when he played Weber's Concerto. But in 1868 he made his debut at Leipzig as o baritone singer and won a great reputation as an interpreter of German Lieder. ··

In 1877, he visited London where his singing aroused enthu siasm. Next year he settled In England, becoming a natural laed Englishman in 1890. He was the
