The statement was as follows: "I was suffering, from: the effects of aconite, oplum, rum and Chinose wine. I do not know whother I fired a shot or not. I noticed this when the steamer moored at the wharf, where I was told by a Chinese that I hadt shot Tharkar Singh. A short time after I was conveyed in a motor car by on Inspector to the Government Civil Hospital. On the following day I came to know that I was detained in hospital."

Defendant was asked whether he had any witnesses or had any- thing to say, and he replied he had no witnesses, but elected to: make a statement. He said that the complainant had said he was not angry with Musau Singh, and if that was so, why did he go with Muxen Singh and himself to nee the chief officer? When they went to the chief officer, Thorkar Singh said he liked Mussa Singh to be the No. 1.
