Geneva, June 5. The Disarmament Conference threatens to come to a disastrous end on a note of embittered counter-accusations regarding responsibility for failure.
Mr. Arthur Henderson and M. Barthou (who quarrelled with Sir John Simon last week) had a sharp passage of words at to-day's meeting of the Bureau of the Conference, but Mr. Henderson was partially mollified when M. Barthou apologised for insinua tions of a lack of impartiality.
Eleventh-hour efforts are still being made to avert col- lapse, but the prospects are practically nil, as even those making the efforts tackle their task in a spirit of pessimism.
