This opportunity may, however, be taken of reporting to Your Lordship what I should otherwise have done in another despatch, that this Government has been enabled to obtain the gratuitous services of the Reverend Dr. Eitel - a renowned Chinese Scholar - in supervising the studies of those officers of the service who are applying themselves to learn Chinese. Classes have been formed and a curriculum adopted which, in due time, I have every reason to believe will prove of marked advantage to the public Service of the Colony.
