authorizing the report to Hainan of five chests of opium dated Singapore, the 5th of June 1875, and signed by H. D. Chopard, Imports and Exports Officer.
Now Hainan is Chinese territory and not opened by treaty to British trade, and although the port of Kiung Chow is mentioned as one of the new treaty ports to be opened, it has not yet been declared so. Consequently, no vessel can be authorized to call even there, much less at Hainan generally.

Excise Exports Permit under Sections 5, 6, 10, & 24
I, Han Joo Choon, am authorized to export to Hainan per steamer "Carisbrook Castle" five (5) chests Benares opium, lot 185, marked (2), on Saturday, the 5th day of June 1875. The said opium having been purchased by the exporter from S. J. Carvalho, the same being now stored in the Godown of Messrs. Bun Hin & Co., situated at Raffles Place, W. 42.
