WORLD PRAISE
ADMIRATION FOR BRITISH RECOVERY
London, Apr. 18.
"A happy country," epitomises opinion from abroad respecting the British Budget.
French newspapers extol the sub- stantial benefits accruing from financial rectitude. Business and financiul circles unanimously ad- mire the British recovery.
Several newspapers go so far us to state they are gind no provision was made to repay the American War Debt.
The latter point is naturally a feature of the American reaction. The New York Times believes that the Johnson Bill, cutting off credit from defaulting creditors, does not absolve any
nation from the stigma of default even though it makes a token payment. It adds that therefore no further payment will be made by Britain until n final aettlement Is arranged.
The New York Herald-Tribunc pays à tribute to the solid achieve- menta and the permanency that pe companies the "pay as they could" programme.
Rome registers nothing. As far. as nowspapers go, there is a com- pleto black-out." They do not even inentis the Budget.
