The Ambasander was the guest of honour at a luncheon party in New York held in commemoration of the eightieth anniversary of the signing of the Japanese-American Trade Treaty of 1854.
Mr. Saito said that the treaty contained two main points. treaty of peace and amity on the one hand, and of commercial in- tereourse on the other.

could afford to smile at those who harped on the probability of war between the two countries.
