ERECTION OF COOKHOUSE

AT SHING MUN

The hearing of a claim for $1,000 by Chan Wah, sub-building- contractor of 23, Yu Chau Street, Kowloon, against Messrs. William Baxter and Company, building contractors, of Powell's Building. Hongkong. In respect of the erection of a combination cook- house at Shing Mun, was сол tinued yesterday afternoon at the Supreme Court, before the Pulsne Judge, Mr. R. E. Lindsoll.

Defendant, in evidence, stated that the price of "grayeblocka" to Shing Mun was 30 cents per cuble foot with a minimum of 11 cents per cubic foot for transport. For the work 1,650 six inch blocks and 750 four inch blocks were used, making a total of 360 cuble feet. In addition 100 cubic feet were needed for a chimney and stove.

The price for asbestos sheeting was $5 per sheet at Shing Mun including washers, nails, etc. Thirty-two abcols were needed. Forty cubic feet of extra wood was auppiled to plaintiff from witness's own workshop and he price that at $1.40 per cuble foot.

Witness agreed that $22 would be a fair price for the sink and fittings but at Messra./Dodwell's it had cost him $23. Transport Was $2.50.

Mr. Partland, re-called, stated that under the contract plaintiff was to supply his own materials and no far as he knew plainti ild an. He had in fact borrowed $25 on one occasion for the pur- pore of purchasing blocks.
