(By "Veritas”),

This afternoon, for the third successive year, the Rumjahn cousins, and E. C. Fincher and L. Goldman meet in the final of the Hongkong | open doubles tennis championship on the stand court at the H.K.C.C.

For nine years now, without | a break, the Rumjahns have their successfully PROGRAMME

defended title. Three times within the last four years they have been within an ace of losing it, but always have they revealed a hidden energy at the eritical moment and pulled through to some magnificent victories.

Latest advices received by the N.Y.K. offices here are that the Hakone Maru, delayed by stormy weather outside of Shang- bai, will definitely reach Hongkong on Friday morning.

Kowloon,

Then followed the losers' glorious rally which saw them pull up to five-all, and finally the Rumjalina' great bla to break the sequence and their capture of the eleventh and twelfth games for the match.

AS GOOD AS EVER.

This afternoon we are promised an equally keen struggle, for: Goldman and Fincher have given evidence that they are playing as. well as over, while it seems an insult even to consider any loss of form on the part of the holders.

Their long association, extend- ing now over ten years, has had no repercussions, and to-day they play together with just the same effective understanding as in the days when they began toTMmiaké local tennis history.

Their challengers this afternoon have also bonefitted by playing! together for three years, and as this is, I believe, the last year elther Fincher or Goldman intend to participate in the open cham. pionship, we can expect an extra effort on their part to bid a fitting

The only reason why I doubt whether the title will change hands is that if they are to win, Fincher and Goldman must do it in nt least four sets. MUST WIN FIRST TWO SETS. REACHES FINAL OF SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP:

HO KA-LAU RETIRES WITH CRAMP AT TWO SETS-ALL

(By "Veritas").

Yesterday, on the Hongkong Cricket Club stand court, was seen a little tennis tragedy, Ho Ka-lau, much the better tennis player, but with a physical disability, has to forfeit a wonderful opportunity of entering the final of the singles tennis championship, when, after. being driven to four sets by Tam Yoc-fong, an attack of cramp compelled him to retire. Tam thus qualifled to oppose Tsui Wai-pui in the final to

morrow.

It is a regrettable fact that Ifö Ka-lau will now probably never make the final of the Hongkong championship. His physique will not stand the strain of anything| over a three set match. It is not happy thing to sea a player, who has devoted hours of patient endeavour to improve his game, robbed of the reward due to him in such a manger.

This was equivalent to three neta to Ho Ka-Jau, and the rest was inevitabloor-nearly so.-.

As a matter of fact Tam was a little unlucky in losing the second set. He held four game points at seven-nil and had previously taken the lead at 7-6.

Tam Yoc-fong's entry into the Anal illustrates the rapid progress made by this youngster who la still pursuing scholastic studies, 9. Tam is, I believe, the youngest player ever to reach the final of the Hongkong, open, singles championship. He has had double as hard a journey to it than Taul Wal-mil, having run up against EC Fincher, Lat. Kwong-tsun and Ho Ka-Inu in {"quick succession.

Tom was able to anticipate it and to beat Ho with the return by driving across the court.
