SILVERITES TRY AGAIN
INSERTED IN MONETARY BILL
Washington, Mar. 22. An important amendment, authorising theremonetisa. tion of silver at the ratio of sixteen to one, has been in- serted into the Goldsborough Bill by the Banking Sub. Committee of the House of Representatives.
The Goldsborough Bill, in its original form, had the backing of the Administration inasmuch as it provides for the establishment of a Federal Monetary Authority with the sole control over the insuance of currency.
The amendment Included in the measure carries the authorisation much further. It permits the new Monclury Authority to buy and sell silver so that the value of 371.26 grains of allver will be equal to 23.22 grains of pure gold - 16:1 rato.,
The bill, with the amendment, was finally approved by the Sub- Committes and the principal sponsor, Mr. Goldsborough enld later that the Full Committee would consider the revised Bill on Monday of next week.-Reuter,

TAXIS WRECKED AND BURNED
(SPECIAL TO “TELEGRAPH”)`
NEW YORK, MAR. 22,
A THOUSAND STRIKING TAXI-DRIVERS RAN WILD IN NEW YORK LAST NIGHT, THE CITY WITNESSING THE MOST SERIOUS DISTURBANCES IN ITS RECENT HISTORY.
Again and again, the taxi-men came into collision with massed contingents of police, and scores were in- jured on both sides in furious street fighting in which the strikers used sticks and cudgels against the night- sticks of the police.
All traffic in the heart of the city was paralysed for hours by the warring strikers, who stopped "black-leg" taxi-cabs, turned out the occupants, wrecked the vehicles and set them on fire.
