"Dancing Lady" Experiences not unlike Joan Craw- ford's early struggles on Brandway provide the story motivation in "Dan- elng Lady," the spectacular production which is showing at the Queen's, with' Clurk Gable playing opposite the glamorous Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer star. In the picture, directed by Robert Z. Leanned from the James Warner Fellah romance of backstage life, Joan plays the part of a girl "born to dance" whose ambition to become a success lashes her through endless heartbreaks. "Yes, I know what it means to try to break into a Broad- way show," Jonk recalla. "Broadway is a hard nut to crack. It is a heart- rending battle at the very least. Even with previous experience dancing in the theatre in Chicago and Kansas City it was mighty difficult to find anybody who would give me a chance on Broadway. Playing these scenes. in the picture brought back forcibly those days of tribulation. My feet actually felt heavy again as I went through the rounda of theatrical ofticos. I suppose every girl who ho been in chorus werk has gone through the same grind.. It is brutal, dis illusioning business. I am glad I had the ambition to make me stick. But I don't see how i uver did it." Joan left home in Kansas City to go on the stage against the wishes of her family. Eventually sho found her way to Broadway where she finally got a jub in "Innocent Eyes," under the name of Lucille La Seur. Her beauty and talent were recognized and she inter went into the "Passing Show and
Garden"
It "Winter then who won the attention of motion picture scouts with the result that she obtained a screen test at M-G-M. She was given a contract and has remained at this studio throughout her sensational career. Broadway, like Hollywood, "has only one job for every thousand who is attracted only by the glamour of stage or screen Avon loves hor ambition when she is confronted with the stern realities. 1 stuck mostly because I couldn't go back. My pride wouldn't permit nie to quit, no matter how badly I may i have wanted to. Of course, I'm glad I didn't give up. But I would hesitate to advise any other girl to try it." Franchot Tone heads the supporting cast in the Crawford-Gablo picture. Others featured are May Robson, Winnie Lightner, Fred Astaire, Robert Benchley, Ted Healy and his stooges, Gloria Foy, Art Jarrett, Grant Mit- chell, Maynard Holmes, Nelson Eddy al Sterling Holloway

"Too Much Harmony" "Too Much Harmony", Paramount's lavish musical production, playing at the King's Theatre, has an imposing cast, including Bing Crosby, Juck Oakie, larry Green, Lilyan Tashman and Ned Sparka. The story revolves around the activities of a group of show people, and the plot follows them off stage and backstage, in their homes and in their dressing rooma, revealing nil of the glamour in the lives of these folks whose job it is to make people laugh and cry. Eight brand new hit tunes were especially written for the fin. Soveral are vocalized by Crosby, one by Judith Allen, and two are production numbers. Dances were devised and singed by LeRoy Prinz Edward Sutherland directed.
