operation, a single-engined high speed "mailplane" that has been built for the Ministry.
It is expected that all the new machines will be in service by June and that they will include the two new tour-engined passenger aero- plance which have already been described In the Morning Post.
On June 2 the Empire air ser vices will become all-air services, the train section between Paris and Brindisi being superseded by an alr section touching at Marseilles and Naples. Before that date, on April 1, a section of the South African line will be duplicated. and two services a week will be flown between Salisbury and Johannesburg instead of one as heretofore.

An for the Atlantic route, dia- ausaions are now proceeding with the object of running an experi- mantal flying boat service between- Newfoundland and Canada.
For the reat, I understand that the proposal for a system of ship- to-shore services is being consider- ed, and that certain surface vessels are likely to be fitted with aircraft catapults.
The extension of the India ser- vice to Australla is dependent upon the action of the Australian Government. Tenders for this aer- vice have now been made, but it is not expected that the Australian Government will reach a decision for at least two months. Con- sequently, it is unlikely that the through line to Australia will be available until the end of the year. Negotiations, details of which I have been asked to regard aa con- fidential for the present, are taking place with the object of establish- ing internal air lines within the British Isles, in addition to those already proposed by independent companies. The primary object of these lines, will be to connect the Empire services with the in- dustrial centres-in-England-and- Scotland,
Another innovation which is be- Ing considered is the introduction of high speed "shuttle services" between European capitals. These would be run by the new medium- sized aeroplanes.
The programme of European services for the coming summer is not to be altered in any major par- ticulars. No night flying is con- templated, although the present | late services do actually operate by night during a large part of the
season.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet Comi- mittee, which is considering the whole question of air transport, including subsidies and air mails, is examining many different pro- posals for extending and accelera- ting British air lines...
