FOURTH CALL OVER
MORE LIVELY MARKET
FINE GALLOP BY SOLDIER OF CHINA
(By "The Man on the Spot.")
The Fourth Call Over last night Was not without feature. The Impressive gallop of Soldier of China covering the Dorby Dis- tunce Inst Saturday in 3.23.2/5 last with 31 seconds for the quarter and 2.45.2/5 for the last 1 Miles has enlivened the market and it is now considered a better pony than Soldier of Britain. At 3/1 no business, but a level in avour of Soldier of China against King's Warden was done.
Prima Donna's gallop of last Saturday for the mile in 2.11.2/5 was not of her usual and as a result, her odds have lengthened to 10/1 and at this, business has
& THE INTERPORT been done.
MAY NOT BE ABLE TO CO NORTH
BICKFORD ALSO UNAVAILABLE
(By "Veritas"),
the Ernest Strange, Club inside left, who has been select ed to travel as reserve with the Hongkong Interport football team to Shanghai, may not be able to go.
There is a possibility that he may not be able to obtain leave, although he is hopeful that events will prove otherwise.
It now also appears certain that even if asked, Bickford will 'be unable to accompany
the team, as he is due to leave for England on furlough on Febru- ary 21.
King's Warden has not yet been given a real "try-out" and on ac- count of this there was no enquiry for Dynasty Stable. Same may also be applied to Mrs. Pearce's Trowbridge, King's Warden is reported to be a relation to Diana Bay and therefore commande res- pect.
un-
There was no demand for the Star Stable owing to the satisfactory gallops of the ponies and is now quoted at 6/1. HEM's ponies galloped Inst Saturday at Noon and as a result of more im- pressive performances, are quoted at 10/1.

Already a certain amount of criticism has been levelled against the selectors in regard to the composition of the Hongkong Interport hockey team which is to oppose Macao during Chinese New Year. It has been criticism of the type which one naturally expects to hear disagreement with the way certain positions have been filled. The selectors have in turn been accused of a policy of so-called short- sightedness, lack of porception and without appreciation of the varying claims of particular players.
But whatever one's opinion may be on this score, the fact remains that the team has been selected, and that further to labour one's objections is fruitless.
ANOTHER ANGLE Nevertheless thero is another angle to the whole question to which the selection committee might give some attention: which in fact, will probably demand at- tention in the future,
The question is largely one of principle. It might be conclusive ly proved that the inclusion of Navy players means the strong. thening of the Hongkong tear, but even this does not overcome the objection that Navy players cannot be recognised as bona-fide representatives of local hockey, and that their inclusion the exclusion of eligible civilians. It seems fairly obvious that if theso hockey Interport fixtures develop on the linea anticipated, that trouble will result. unless some definite ruling regarding Services representation is forced.

The composition of the Colony's Interport team includes no less than six Services players, of which three are drawn from the Navy. Even at firat glance the fact that the team is made up of 54 per cent. of Services players appears to be a little out of proportion, especial- ly in view of the very strong civilian teams now in existence.
