Serge Stawisky, hunted all over France as the ringleader of the Bayonne swindle con- spiracy, shot himself at Chamonix to-day to evade arrest.
It appears that he followed a determination expressed a week ago.
The fact that he intended suicide rather: than be caught was told to the Examining Magistrate at Bayonne by an ex-member of the staff of the newspaper Volonte, with which Stawisky was connected.
