SAFETY FIRST CAMPAIGN.
POLICE DEPARTMENT TO TAKE INITIATIVE
With the approval of the Govern- ment. the Inspector General of Police has been
taking steps to First" initiate' shortly a "Safety campaign in the Colony. A large quantity of posters and handbilla in English and Chinese has been printed.

A further step was taken last Friday afternoon, when through the courtesy of the Post- master General, A meeting WAR held at his office to discuss details of the campaign. There were present the Det puty inspector General of Pollee, the Director of Edu- cation. the Postmaster Gen- crai, the Chief Assistant Scere-1 tary for Chinese Affairs, the Rev. G.E.S. Upsdell (Hon. Secretary of the Hongkong Automobile Associa tion), and the Divisional Superin- tendent of Police, Kowloon.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police outlined the preparations which had already been made, and intimated that he was assured of the cordial co-operation of the Press.
It was decided that the "Safety First" campaign should be.com- menced on Monday, January 22, and continue for two weeks. During this period efforts would be made to render the campaign effective through the following Departments and channeļa:

Chinese Reached. The Chief Assistant Secre- tary for Chinese Affairs dertook to enlist the help of the Chineso-nowapaporu in publication of the contents of the handbilla and posters: also to ob- tain, if possible, special advertising facilities for the campaign. It was decided to adopt the home precedent of the use of an emblem in the shape of a red triangle with the Chinese equivalent of the slogan "Safety First" thereon for display on motor vehicles and in garages during the campaign. The assist. ance of the District Watchmen Force in the distribution of hand-, bills was promised.
The Director of Education undertook to arrange for shorti lectures to be given in ! the schools, in English and Chinese, the subject matter to be taken from pamphlets which have been printed for distribu- tion.
