ENGLISH FLAT RACING

SEASON REVIEWED

SOME INTERESTING NOTES ABOUT LEADING, OWNERS, HORSES, TRAINERS & JOCKEYS

Below will be found an absorbing review of the English Flat Racing season which recently concluded. It appeared in a recent issue of the Sunday Sportsman, and contains several matters of interest to race-goers.

Unlike Umidwar, Mrs. Rustom had Once again the "Ceuse Fire" atl Manchester has, sounded the knell of a fairly busy season, winning three yet another racing season, but it has racen out of five and finishing second to be confeared that it was a cheerful in the other two. Though wide as the poles asunder, it in indisputable that commerce and racing reflect one another. If things are going badly in the world of busi- ness then we must expect that racing! And breeding will be more or less in the doldruma, but when the sun of prosperity shines on commercial and Industrial undertakings then racing and its anelliary undertakings flourish and expand in the reflected warmth.

Even the meat hardened pessimist can but admit that racing and breed- ing have looked up very considerably in the past few months, thanks to the fact that British credit now standa ná high as ever it did and British trade is advancing with sonorous stop along the road to prosperity,

There is now actually talk of

(By "Capt. Foster")

The past week has been most interesting and I was very much impressed with quite a number of gallops. The course is full of activity these mornings, and one is kept fully occupied watching each gallop-singly or in pairs as the ponies come sweeping down the straight, at intervals of fiften seconds or less, during the busiest hour of the morning between 6-45 and 7-45 o'clock.

The Auction last Thursday week reminded me of the days prior to 1927 when, at the yearly Sales subsequent to the Annual Race Meetings, ponies were literally given away.
