The recent setback to the American recovery programme is vividly shown in figures dis- closed to-day concerning tho cost of providing relief for the unemployed.
Relief expenditure increased in one hundred and thirty-five cities and urban countries in forty-fiva out of forty-eight States, contain- ing sixty-five per cent, of the population, during Novembor na compared with October.
The official figuros show that 1,650,862 families were on relief rolls during November.ne.com- pared with 1,526,737 familles in increase of nearly October, an 125,000 families in the month.
