A vordict that the deceased met his death by accident whilo curry- ing out his duty was returned by a Coroner's Jury at the Central Police Court yesterday afternoon, at the inquest upon Vu Choj,

Fireman No. 77, of the Central DANCE
Fire Station, who was killed by falling debris at a fire at the Ki Yau Preserved Meat shop, 355, Queen's Road Central, on the fight of December 7. The jury added no rider.
Divisional Inspector R. Shan- Bou, who had charge of the Police: Investigations said there was no evidence as to the cause of the outbreak,
Mr. Balfour sat as Coroner, and was assisted.. by the following: Jury:-Messrs. C, E, Holmes (Foreman), E. S. Catcher and L. G, Xavier.
The Arat witness called, Dr. R. S. Begblo, medical officer in chargo of Victoria Mortuary, described the injuries received by the de- censed, and said that death was due to crushing Injury of the chest, burns and shock.
Mr. J. C. FitzHoary, Deputy Superintendent of tho Fire Brigade, said:-On December 7

I found the second floor of 355, Queen's Road Central ablaze with the flames threatening the ad- joining property. The fire ap- peared to be so threatening, water having had come through the main at this period, that I sont urgent messages to the water pumping station. I Instructed Assistant Station Officer Woollard to inspect the rear of the building and to ascertain if the fire float would be brought into use. He informed me that this could not be done owing to the distance.
The fire had seriously involved the first floor and had ignited the roof of 357. I then entered the ground floor accompanied by Au- sistant Station. Officer Brooks," Firemen Nos. 77 (deceased), 14 and 90, and I partly ascended the stair to the first floor. The whole of the ground floor and the stair as far as the first floor were at this stage untouched by firo and bore every Indication of being structurally safe.
The Crash,
After giving A.S.O. Brooks hla Instructions, I waited at the foot of the staircase with the three fireman. As there appeared to be some delay I despatched Fireman 90 to hurry tho water. About half-a-minute later I went to- wards the entrance of the Boor and almost simultaneously, I heard a roar of the floor collaps- ing behind me. On turning quick- ly I saw the ground floor was almost full of debris to the first floor level. I called upon the men and sub-officers in the street to enter the floor and bring their hose. with them to rapidly ex- tinguish the fire if possible, with -a-view-to-extricating the two fire-
men...
I called upon bystanders in the street, other Europeans and the Police to assist in the removal of the debris. I also asked Mr. Wynne-Jones, who happened to bo on the scene, to got what assis tanco was available.
I gave instructions for the fro cscape to be pitched to the second floor of the building and went up to ascertain the apparent condi- tion of the remaining parts of the flour. The rear portion appeared to be very unsafe and for the time being it appeared to be dangerous to permit anybody to enter,
When I arrived in the street again was informed by the sub- officer in charge of the ambulance that Fireman 14 had effected his escape from the rear of the pre- mises from the basemont.. I final- ly went to the rear of the build- ing and entered the basement | from where he had escaped and went up a small concrete stair into the ground floor, and arrived at a point where I left the two firemen. The wooden athir to the first floor was practically un- touched. I called for firemen to enter and commenced to remove debris ns rapidly as possible, and after a few moments found tho helmet of Fireman 14.
