SIX WEEKS' GAOL SENTENCE

Six weeks hard labour was passed on Sung Chen-ban, a Shan- tang constable, PIC.D. 57, by Mr. Wynne-Jones at the Kowloon Magistracy this morning when he of pleaded guilty to a charge theft of a blanket belonging to another, constable.

Mr. W. La B. Sparrow, A.S.P., told the Court that defendant, who was attached to the Mongkok Police Station, was on duty be tween, mikinight and 4 a.m, on Da- comber 17. Complainant, D. 244. was also on duty during these hours, and they returned to the station together. Complainant then found a rod woollen blanket to be missing from his bed. Ho suspected defendant and neeused him of having atolon it.

After an argument between the two, defendant took complainant to a stall in Mongkok whura the blanket was found. Subsequent inquiries revealed that defendant had returned to the station at 3 4.m, and took the blanket out with the idea of pawning it later.”

Mr. Sparrow said defendant hart been in the Force for nine months and bore a good record until re- cently. Now he had nine reports pending against him.

Asked why he stole the blanket, defondant said he was feeling cold at 3 am, and he went back to the station to get the blanket to cover himself.
