South would start with one spade, West would overcall with two clubs, North would pass, Enst would bid two hearts, South pass. West might be justified in bidding three clubs, but Enst would go to three bearta
The Play
South has the opening load. His spade sult is the strongest, and holding ace and king, the king is led to tell partner that you hold either the ace or queen. Dummy would play small and North, the partner of the opening leader, now has no opportunity to talk. If he plays the 10 spot, he will ask his partner to continue with spades, while If he plays his small one- the deuce he will ask his partner for shift. As he wants the ace of hearts taken out before the spades are continued. North's prop- er play is the deuce of spades.
Bridge is a partnership game and South should listen
to what his partner has to say and should not continue with the spades. Cer- tainly his partner does not want him to lead clubs and perhaps set that long suit for the declarer. He is probably trying to say, "Take the trump ace out of the dummy, purt- ner," therefore South leads the three of hearts which dummy is forced to win with the ace.
