WIN FOR 12TH BATTERY
IN R.A. CUP
Assured that it would be a "blood and thunder" match, I went to Lyemun yesterday to watch the R.A. football cup encounter between the 12th and 9th bat- teries. It turned out that there was no blood, only an occasional faint rumble of thunder, and quite a lot of good and entertaining football writes "Veritas."
The 12th, after missing golden
opportunities for an hour, succeeded
in snapping two quick goals in the UNLUCKY GUNNERS last ten minutes and thus settled temporarily, all argument.ne to the respective footballing abilities of the two arch foes of the sports field.

Allan at right buck for the 12th played magnificently. So well did he cover Wharton, his partner, who was prone to mis- kick under pressure, that the 9th forwards seldom got in a really good shot at goal.
Pardoe and Rodgers (the latter who is wing half in the senior! league team and turned out at con- tre-half for the 9th) shared the half back honours. Pardoe's long -winging passes were n feature. Rodger stood out clearly for the intount of work he did. Unfortun- utely he had no forwards to carry it through successfully.
Gibbons at left back and Wor- thington at left, half, both league players, gave good displays for the 9th. Even so the 12th inter- mediates were alightly the more im
