CHAIRMAN'S SPEECH.

The Secretary having read the notice convening the extraordin- Iary meeting, the Chairman enid: | Gentlemen, It now being past the hour for which this Meeting was called, I will ask the Secretary to rend the notice convening it. These notices. have been in your hands for the requisite time and, I think, are self-explanatory. so that the

the authorised capital to be increased and ap. plfention to Government for per- mission to carry this into effect was made on 17th August, 2933. Government approval having been duly obtained, it was decided by your Board of Directors that the new issue of ahares should, subject to your approval, be offered to shareholders in the manner aet forth in the notices. It is the in- tention that $2.50 will be payable on acceptance of the new shares and that the balance of $7.50 shalt be called up from time to time as required for the satisfactory financing of your undertaking.

Before putting the resolutions to the Metting, I would like to make reference to the matter of the annual appropriations to General Reserve, which your Board considered to be inadequate, having regard to the amount of the authorised capital of your Company and, consequently, the opportunity was taken when ap- proaching Government for per- mission to increase the authorised capital; to make application for an adjustment of this matter. You will, therefore, be pleased to learn that Government has approved our proposal whereby the annual appropriation to General Reserve will be increased from $50,000 to $170,482, thus allowing your Com- pany to amortise its capital over the period of the franchise.
