HANGED
San Jose, Cal., Nov. 27.

to-day and lynched the alleged Suigon kidnappers of Mr. Brooke Hart Swntow Jr., whose mutilated body was Haiphong thrown into San Francisco Bay, Straits following the failure of the boy's Shanghai- parents to make prompt payment of the ransom.
The police were powerless to quell the rush of the infuriated mob. the leaders of which used an Improvised battering ram to smash the prison doors. Tear gas was used, but was of no avail.
The prisoners were dragged from their cells and after being badly beaten were hanged from a tree in St. James Park.
a
to The short, while trying protect the men, was knocked un- conscious and taken to hospital. The lynching followed vigorous agitation for the enforce. ment of the new law making kid- napping a capital offence.
Governor Ralph of California declared, following the lynching: "It is the beat Fesaon California has ever given the country. We have shown the country that California is not going to tolerate kidnapping."-Router,
Mr. Brooke Hart, aged 22, was the son of a wealthy merchant of San Jose. He was kidnapped, on November 9, shortly after he left his father's, department store ta go for his ear at a parking station. Two suspects were arrosted! Just week, and one in alleged to have confessed that Hart was beaten to death and his body thrown into San Francisco Bay.
