KALGAN TENSION
JAPANESE THREAT TO DESTROY CITY
Peking, Sept. 16. Genoral Sung Choh-yuan (s hur rying back from Tlontain to-night to confer with General Ho Ying- ching concerning the situation in Charhar, created by the Japanesе thront of draatle action if the Chi- nese troops do not withdraw from Kuyuan.
Chinese circles are of, the opinion that the Japanese warning was prompted by a fear that the division of General Sung's troops under the Command of General Chao Tong-yu, which recently oc- cupled Kuyuan, may continue their advanco on Dolonor, which city is at present held by Manchukuo ¡troops.
It is reported that the local military authorities have already wired to General Chao, ordering| him to halt his advance.
Japanese Warning.
Chinese despatches from Kal- gan last week told of a threat by Japaneso to destroy that city by air attacks unless certain terms were agreed to and complied with immediately.
According to a Kalgan message to the Shil Chick Wan Po, the Japanese planes appeared over the city and scattered leaflets which: contained a warning signed by the head of the Japanese military mis- sion in Jehol City,
The warning complained of an alleged violation of the Tangku Armistice by the troops of Gen- eral Sung Cheh-yuan in occupy- ing Kuyuan and added that unless these troops evacuated the city to the westward of the armistice line, the Japanese would not only hold General Sung Cheh-yuan re- sponsible for the violation of the armistice, but would bomb and de-i stroy Kalgan.-Renter.
