TURNING TENNIS PROFESSIONAL
DROPS-BOMBSHELL
Paris, Aug 29. Henri Cochet, noted French tennis ace who played a leading part in keeping the Davis Cup in France's possession for six years until this season, an- nounced to-day he planned to turn professional.
The formal announcement of his action will be delayed until next wenk when he begins training for Franco-American professional tournament opening Sept. 22.
In this he, la expected to be plt. ted once again against his old ri- val, Bill Tilden, who turned pro- fessional several years ago.
It was Cochet who in 1927 and a season or two afterward ended Tilden's long dominance of interna- tional tenni. and Ellsworth Vines, i American ace, dethroned Cochet last season at Wimbledon, in Davis Cup play and in the Amorlean singles.

In order to foster inter-office bowls at the Public Works
Department, a new competition has come into being this year. In addition to the Inter-De
partmental knock-out tourna- ment which is already in exist- ance, Mr. F. Sutton has pro- sented a cop to be competed for by the various P.W.D. offices. It is being run on the league system, the winners of the trophy to be the team finishing at the top of league. In the event of two or more teams finishing with an equal number of points, a declding match or matches shall be played.
