The sharp fall in the gold value of the dollar and sterling is caus- ing considerable disquiet among financiers and again there is talk in the air of an abandonment by France of the gold standard.

"With a gold reserve of 79.62, it is felt that France has nothing to fear from depreciating currencies as the bulk of France's trade is done with her own colonies.
