VERITY TAKES NINE WICKETS IN AN INNINGS

London, Aug. 22. Kent followed up last week's handsome victory at Dover against Northants by an.even more spectacular accomplishment on the same ground to-day, wher they beat Yorkshire, the champions, by 44 runs after one of the most exciting matches of the season.

In recording this achievement Kent earned the distinction of be- ing the second team this summer to lower the colours of the champions in the county league programine. The Hop county have now outright their last four

WOD matches

and their last five games have given

them 68 points put of a maximum

75.

As both Essex and Sussex won,

the leading positions, in the league table remain unaltered, Yorkshire Cccupying first place with Sussex, Essex and Kent following in that order.

VERITY AND FREEMAN.

The Dover match produced some unusual cricket including a sport- ing declaration by Yorkshire and fine bowling performances by

Verity and Freeman,

Kent, batting first, succeeded in scoring 332, to which B. II. Valen tine, maintaining his consistent form, contributed 90.

Altogether 151 entries have been received for the fifteen championship events, and they include a fair pra nortion of the best swimmers in the Colony.

Unfortunately the diffor ence between the Association and deprived this year's the V.R.C. have championship events of half the usual attraction.

Neither the Association's cham- pionships nor the V.R.C. champion- ships, which are to be held later in the season, can be described as Colony championships. 152*
