BRIDGE COLLAPSE

(By Telegraph. Copyright. Telegraphic Messages Ordinance, 1894. Received, August 22, 11.69 a.m.)

SHANGHAI, Aug, 22- OVER TWO HUNDRED MILITARY CADETS WERE KILLED OR INJURED IN A TERRIBLE SMASH ON THE KIUKIANG-NANCHANG. RAIL- WAY YESTERDAY.

A train which was carrying about five hundred cadets to Nanchang in connexion with Chiang Kai-shek's campaign against the Kiangsi Communists, was thrown into a river when a bridge over which it was passing collapsed, according to one version.

Another version states that the bridge had given way before the arrival of the train, but the engine. driver failed to notice the break in time to stop the train which toppled over into the stream.

Many of the cadets had mirden- lous escapes from death, indeed, the brief detalls roaching Shang- hai suggest that the denth-roll is remarkably light having regard to, the circumstances.

It is understood that two hun- dred of the endets were injured, some of them fatally,
