PURIFICATION PLANT

Macao, July 20. Hongkong readers are familiar with the water problem af Macau for, whereas there are occasional shortages of water in Hongkong, the problent at Macao has been a perpetual one for the last 50

years.

It is not surprising therefore that the Portuguese in thair ondeavours to securo aufficient sup- plies of water for the needs of the residents of the colony should have spent at least $2,000,000 in the making of exhaustive studies and the acquisition of materials and the carrying out of certain works to provide Mneno with wa- tor for drinkin' purposes and also for fire fighting and the watering

of streets.

A visit to Macao at the prosent time offers an added attraction to those of a technical turn of mind by reason of the works being carried out there by the Macao Waterworks Company.

PURIFICATION PLANT.

Cl to Green Island, made fame by its association with the Ceme Company which derived its n as from this island (the island being now completely link- ed to the colony), the Waterworks Company is carrying out its opera- tions for the installation of a. completo purification plant for water gathered from the river.
