London, July 19.

The latest development in the silver situation is the submission of a new silver resolution by Italy, which is designed to replace the much re-drafted Pittman Scherne.

This follows a conference which; cecupied a great part of yesterday morning between Mr. Pittman and the Dutch and Italjan delegates, after which it was declared that. the position looked more hopeful.

Spain is demanding a larger quota of yearly sales from hold- ings but it is not anticipated that this hitch, which prevented the meeting scheduled for yesterday morning from being held.

The Americana are confidont that Spanish representations can be adequately met.

It is regarded as

unfortunate that it should have been advanced, The Dutch delegation now appears to be much more conciliatory, but the Italian resolution, unless it is withdrawn, will complicate-the- prospects of an early and satis- factory agreement.
