A pretty squeeze play for saven odd was recently made by Mr. Robert W. Halpin of Chien- go, a past president of the Amer- lenn Bridge League and captain of the well-known Chiengo bridge Club team. on the following
hand:
The Bidding.
His partner in the South opened the contracting with one diamond. Mr. Halpin in the North had a four and a five-card auft, but due to the fact that he could make a one over one, he bid one spade.
South bid three spades-a game force. Mr. Halpin definitely knew that the hand was going to be played for at least a small slam and decided to see if he could not

East's opening lead was the king of hearts which Mr. Halpin in the North won with the aco. | He inimediately saw that he must! got a break in clubs or "diamonds in order to get a heart discard, ao ho decided to try for the club suit and led the aco and king of clubs followed by small club, ruming the third club in dummy. East discarded a heart.
When he found that he had a bad break in clubs, Mr. Halpin could not try to establish the dia- mond suit with n ruff, as that would bring him to three trump in each hand, so he was forced to depend upon a squeeze,
