The problem of beautifying a modern arterial road by conceal- ing some of its starkness is being solved in an unusual way in con- nection with the Northern By-Pana Rond, designed to save Oxford's ancient buildings from the de- structive vibration caused by heavy through-traffic.

A horse with a broken leg won the Pitchcroft Selling Hardie at Worcester last month.
It was a horse named Boomlot, but he is now referred to fin "Boomlet the Lionheart."

Just past the winning post he collapsed, and while Mr. Ivor Anthony (the trainer) and his owner (Mr. Large) stood beside him, the old horse was painlessly destroyed.
"I have known Boomlet for ten met λ years, and I have never pluckier horse," the head boy at the stables said last night.
"He was 13, and I'll guarantee he enjoyed that last race as much as when he was a three-year-old. He was bought for £50. He was a brave-hearted old fellow, and if ever a horse enjoyed his life and had a happy end it was Roomlet,"

The encampment of the gipsy "Queen" of Kent, where Gipsy Lee, the wisest, most revered, and best- of English loved fortune-teller Romany people for years received the homage of her peoplo, was in mourning last month.
