·SCHOOLGIRLS TO ACT.

TWO INTERESTING PLAYS IN

AID OF V.D.M.A.

On Thursday, May 11, at 6.30 p.m. an exceptionally interest- ing entortainment will be given nti St. Paul's Girls' School, the pro-i ceeds of which go to add to the funds of the V. D. M. A.

Two plays will be noted. “White' Magic" by girls of St. Paul's Girls' School and "The Story of Tobit" by girls of Diocesan Girls' School,

St. Paul's Girls' School atanda in our midat. Its high standard of uchievement in too well known to need emplurising, so the audience can be sure of thoroughly enjoying "White Magic. Collectors of curious facts will remember that for Chinese girls to act in public, in a brand new thing in the Far Enst, and will appreciate thefr finished performance all the more.

"The Story of Tobit" is also quite of the beaten track, and ns shown by the girls of D. G. S. is a thing of beauty that lingers long in the memory. It was produced for i their last Speech Day, and the enthusiasm expressed by all those privileged to see it made their hearers anxious to share this unusual treat. The present op- portunity to do so should not be missed.

The V. D. M. A. is an Associa- tion formed to help forward the work of the Diocese. The Diocese of Victoria, Hongkong, is one of the largest in the world, and is full of interesting problems. Al- though the Colony is only a mere pin-prick on the Eastera edge of the Diocese ita needs are, for the maneat, in the lime-light. There is rapidily growing settled population calling for church ex- tension, and it is to raise funds for the initial expenses that this entertainment is being given.

ADDRESS TO PRESS.

SOVIET AMBASSADOR MEETS JOURNALISTS

Nanking, May 4.

th Speaking at #1 reception monibers of the Preas here this afternoon M. Bogentolov, Soviet Ambassador to China assured his listeners that they would always be able to obtain from the Soviet Embassy very exhaustive informa tion regarding "what actually takes place in Russia without re- Horting to the wild taiks dls- seminated by that section of the Capitalist Press which is hostile to Ilussia."

Again emphasising that the foreign policy of the Soviet Gov- ernment was based on full equality in its relations with all countries, M. Bogomolov said that "the very successful fulfilment" of the Five- Year Plan in Russia had provided conditions requisite for considor- able expansion in Sino-Russian trade and he hoped that the re- sumption of normal relations would become one of the most important factors for promotion of peace in the Far East and the World.

The Ambasador drew the atten- tion of his listeners to the re- jection by the Disarmament Con- ference of the Soviet's proposal for complete disarmament.--Reu- ter.
