Crowds of people who had waited for hours in the streets of Bow paid their last homage to Mira. Lansbury, wife of Mr. George Lans- bury, M.P. (Leader of the Opposi tian), as her funeral cortego pass- ed from the house to Bow Parish Church.
The service in church wan to- tally different from that of an ordinary funeral. In place of the usual and hymns and prayers, Mr. Lansbury had selected hymns breathing the spirit of love in memory of the woman who, as he described her, had been "my" sweetheart for sixty years.”
"Oh perfect love all human thought transcending," and "The day Thou gavest, Lord, is ended." were the hymns of Mr. Lansbury's choice.
MR. LANSBURY'S REQUEST, No mournful strains of the Dead Marchi greeted him and his family when they arived at the church. Instead, the organist played Mendelssohn's Wedding March. This, like the hymns of love, waa also by Mr. Lansbury's special request.
When the short service ended the organ again thundered a note of hope and triumph. This time it was the "Hallelujah Chorus," Mrs. Lansbury's favourite music,
Crowds ten deep lined each foot- path, and every head was bared as Mr. Lansbury stepped into the frat of 20 cars which conveyed him and the mourners to Ilford, where he cremation took place.

A remarkable device, which not only gives the depth of water under a ship and the nature of the bed of the sea, but may ultimately be able to report the presence of particular kinds of fish in the neighbourhood of the ship, was re- ferred to at the annual meeting, in London, of the Marconi Inter- national Marine Communication Company.
Mr. F. S. Hayburn, the Chair- man, sail that the device, known as the Echometer, was manu- factured by a aubaldiary company, and was used by British trawlers. It embodied an optical system for indicating the depth of water under ship. It was extremely simple in operation and could be manipulated by any member of the ship's crew,
Soundings could be obtained instantaneously by pressing a bulton. The
presence of this gear on bourd ship undoubtedly encouraged the taking of sound- lags frequently, even during the most adverse weather conditions, particularly as no preparation was necessary, nor was there any need to reduce the speed of the vessal when sounding.
