However, Mr. Sims had a definite bid for this hand when it was at Deal recently. He is the creator dealt to him at a duplicate ganto of the original three forcing bid fused in the one-over-one system of contract. Let me explain this bid to you.

It is with great regret that we have to record the death, which occurred at the Kowloon Hospital at noon yesterday, of Dr. Marian O'Bromski, a very old realdent of the Colony and until Intely chief chemist of the Talkoo Sugar Re- finery.
A native of Poland, deceased, who was 70 years of age, had been in ill-health for a long time, anil his demise was not entirely unex- pected to his intimate friends. In fact his fo was despaired of several months ago, but he made a good recovery and was almost his usual self again when he suf
cul- fered a relapse In March, minating in his death yesterday. Dr. O'Bremak arrived in the Colony in 1888 to join the Taikoo Sugar Refinery, with which firm he was connected gntil the end of 1031, when he retired. Since А house In then he bought Ngaushiwan, where he led a quiet life.
The late Dr. O'Bremskl was very devoted to his work; and it would be naid of him that his work was his hobby. During his 43 the Re- years of service with finery, he had been only once on na for a holiday, and that was back as 1901. He had kept him- self abreast of the latest scientific discoveries through extensive reading in several languages, of which he knew some half dozen.

Therefore, when this hand was dealt, Mr. Sims was not interested in simply playing the hand for a grand slams at spades. He saw an opportunity to play the hand at no trump if his partner held the ace of diamonds, so his original bid was. three spades.
