Ng Hlin, unemployed, appeared before Mr. Schofield, at the Central Magistracy this morning, to answer two charges of larceny. -

The charges were that he stole a Mah Jongg set the property of Mrs. Strahan, wife of Dr. S. S. Strahan, of 360 The Peak, and a cigarette enso and lighter, the property of Mr. A. C. Beck, of the Asiatic Pe- troleum Company.

Defendant pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspector Sheppard guld: that Mrs. Strakan went home Inst year at the end of October. When she left, the mah jongg set was left in the drawing room. On her 1 return, after March 4, she found that the 136 pieces were missing although the box remained be- hind.

BREACH OF TRUST..

While she was away, Mr. A. C. Beck and three other Europeans need the premises as bachelors' quarters, and defendant was Mr. Beck's boy. He was dismissed from the service owing to laziness and incompetency, and three days ngo returned to the house to look for a job. In the meantime Mr. Beck discovered that his cigarette ense and lighter were missing, and susulon fell on the accused. When accused returned to look On for a job he was arrested, him was found a pawn ticket with which he had redeemed the Mah Jongg set, while the cigarette cane and lighter were found in his pas

sesalon.

The defendant asked that a leni- ent view be taken of the case and a fine be imposed, but Mr. Scho- field, remarking that it was a serious breach of trust, sentenced the defendant to six weeks in- prisonment on each charge, the sentences to run consecutively.
