A player considering a de fensive bid in second position has A difficult decision to make. From the original bid and his own, hold- ing he realizes that his partner and his left hand opponent have Marion comparatively little strength be- tween them.

If he finds that strength and a favourable distribution in bia partner's hand à defensiva bid will result in a valuable part score for his side. "On the other hand.. If the distribution is bad and his opponent holds the missing high cards he is confronted with a heavy penalty.
