CONTRACT BRIDGE
By W. E. McKenney The hand illustrated to-day shows how a wisely selected irregular lead may be the only means of de- feating a contract.
When the opening leader decides to depart from established conven- tions he should take two things into consideration. First, is it likely that normal defence can defeat the contract? Second, is there a fair chance that the contemplated ir regular lead can do so?
If there is a chace to defeat the contract by regular defence, it is best to follow that procedure. An Irregular lead is just as likely to lose a trick as to gain a trick, and should usually he employed only when the situation is desperate.
