GERMAN UPHEAVAL

HUNDREDS OF “REDS” ARRESTED

ELECTIONS ON SUNDAY

Berlin, Mar. 1.

The ruthless suppression af all Communistic activities prior to Sunday's elections continues throughout Germany.

Over two hundred and sixty prominent Communists have been arrested in Berlin and elsewhere the number arrested runs into sev- eral hundreds.

An acute air of tension prevails but the rigorous measures taken have prevented serious disorder.

A fresh Presidential Detres is- sued to day provides the death penalty for the betrayal of mili- tary secrets and for capionage on "behalf of a foreign government.
