MISS FRANCES PERKINS APPOINTED
EXPERIENCE IN SIMILAR JOB
New York, Feb. 28.
The appointment of the first woman ever to hold a Presi- dential Cabinet post in the history of the United States was nounced to-day.
The honour has fallen upon Miss Frances Perkins, who has 'been appointed Secretary of the Labour Department in the Roo- sevelt Administration.
The Cabinet has been completed with the simultaneous appoint- : ments of Senator T. J. Walsh, of Montana, as 'Attorney-General, and Mr D. C. Roper as Secretary of Commerce.
Miss Perkins is now New York State Commissioner of Labour, the first and only woman to hold even a State cabinet job. She was np- pointed by Governor Roosevelt in 1929.
She has been identified with in- dustrial welfare work since 1910, when she took first public posi- tion Secretary of the Consumers' League-and has held innumer-
